If you are living with a chronic illness and/or chronic pain, you are living with a set of challenges that makes you feel apart from those around you. Feeling unwell for long periods of time impacts all aspects of your life: your mood and outlook, your relationships, your goals, your feelings about your body, and your sense of who you are.

Dealing with physical symptoms, medical procedures, uncertainty, and an impersonal health care system can be stressful, exhausting, and even traumatizing. You can get so busy managing your physical health that the emotional dimensions of what you are going through are neglected.

Psychotherapy or talk therapy, as some call it, is an excellent resource for people facing serious illnesses. It can provide you a place to speak freely about the fears, hurts, hopes, and disappointments – all the ups and downs – that can come with being really sick. If you are newly diagnosed with an illness, psychotherapy can help you find your bearings and cope with the changes that are happening.

I welcome adults facing any type of health concern, at any level of severity. I am particularly informed about the complexities faced by individuals and couples addressing
autoimmune illnesses (such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis), gynecological disorders, heart disease, and cancer. I am also experienced with the unique needs of those whose illnesses bring them into states in which survival is in doubt.
